Website Pitfalls
Up front we like to warn all our clients of the pitfalls of commercial websites.
  1. The website is only part of your marketing mix - there has to be support content to go with it. It is imperative to update your:
    • business correspondence(business cards, letterhead, quotes, invoices...)
    • print mailings (flyers, brochures...)
    • print advertising (newspapers, trade magazines)
    • if a supplier, get on client's websites as a link
    • signs and
    • all email correspondence.
  2. Search engine will not provide traffic. Sad but true, search engines are too overburdened and too numerous and too limited. Clients have to know how to search for your site, and the result has to be on one of the first two screens of results. If you are relying on search engines, good luck.

  3. The Hidden Costs
Like purchasing a car or a house, there are always more costs than the sticker price.
    • registering your dot-com name(s) $30.00
    • web hosting (see below) $150-$250
    • web access (various costs and options)
    • multiple e-mail identities (5@$90/yr, 10@$150/yr, 25@$250/yr)

These are direct costs from Information Gateway Services (IGS: 884-7200 or www.kw.igs.net). These are the best folks to deal with and to date all my clients use them. Even if you go elsewhere for your web design, call them for web hosting, they are the best!
