Technical Writing
Our expertise in multimedia started with writing help systems. The stages of authoring help systems has served us well in all areas of 'multimedia' development:
  1. Becoming a subject matter expert (its not fiction!
  2. Creating content
  3. Designing the interface
  4. Testing & Refining
  5. Releases

  1. Subject Matter Expert
This step is the key to a successful document. Our ability to absorb information and present it in a simple, informative and appropriate manner will make your project a success. Put our experience to work, we can help dictate if this should be part of a website, an Adobe Acrobat document, an online help system, a CDROM training package or other based on the project's scope.

There is also the other option, to train your subject matter experts to develop their own help/training material. Send an email to our training department for a free consultiation.

  2. Creating Content
Whatever it takes we do! Scanning text with OCR, reverse engineering .hlp or .pdf. Converting MacIntosh graphics to the PC world (different resolutions = different looks). Challenge us with your conversions!

In terms of the actual writing style, it depends on the project. For Manulife Financial they get the business style while Helmutz Interlock is a bit less formal.

Writing for the internet is different than writing a brochure(Click here to learn a href="reading.html">how people read on the internet - they don't!.

Authoring a script for a tradeshow is another style change as is the onscreen text. Every project is different and every media has unique requirements and do not forget about the differences in audiences!

  3. Designing the Interface
We can write the best copy ever, but if your audience misses it or cannot find it, then we have failed. We have experience in navigation for help files, training CDs, internet and more. More? Spreadsheets, databases, form design... its a long list.

  4. Testing & Refining
We do not get paid unless it works, so we are very focused on testing the system thoroughly in multiple environments. We will run it through the various Windows platforms (Windows 95/98/Me/XP) and browsers (IE and Netscape). Other parameters include testing with various screen resolutions, even the non-recommended to see if any flagarant errors may occur.

  5. Releases
Our job is not completed until the system is released. And here is where we really shine. We can help you release online, in print, electronically via PDF, on CDROM, on DVD, or help you install it on your LAN.

And the physical release includes assistance with marketing it too. Creating a tool and not getting it out in front of your audience is a common mistake that we can help you avoid.
